Lack of Libido Treatments

A man’s lack of libido can reflect physical or psychological stress and imbalances or be the direct result of medication for another health issue. It can be very frustrating for couples who want a family, and improving general health is essential in turning things around.

Identifying possible causes and addressing lifestyle or personal issues that reduce libido is crucial, especially regarding lack of sleep and alcohol. Medications

Speak to your MD/GP if you’re taking any of the following:

  1.  Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants like Prozac
  2.  Tricyclic antidepressants such as Elavil
  3.  Anti-anxiety Benzodiazepines such as Xanax
  4.  Benign prostate hyperplasia drugs (e.g. Proscar)
  5.  Hair-loss medications, including Propecia
  6.  Antihistamines, especially diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and chlorpheniramine (Chlor-Trimeton)
  7.  Anti-epileptic drugs such as Tegretol
  8.  Opioids such as Vicodin, OxyContin, and Percocet
  9.  Beta-blockers such as Propranolol and Metoprolol
  10.  Calcium channel blockers
  11.  ACE Inhibitors
  12.  Anti-arrhythmics (Disopyramide)
  13.  Parkinson’s disease medications
  14.  Anabolic steroids
  15.  Antifungal medications like Ketoconazole
  16.  Heartburn and reflux medication Cimetidine (Tagamet)
  17.  Statins
  18.  Chemotherapy and radiation drugs

Other drugs

These also reduce libido and sperm quality:

  1. Marijuana
  2.  Cocaine
  3. Excess alcohol

A Lack of Libido and PFPs

As with erectile dysfunction, a lack of interest in sex is usually due to issues that affect the whole body, rather than being solely sexually based. There are psychological, physical and medication-related causes for the condition, and the three PFPs are more prone to low libido are:

  • Tinnitus, dizziness, nocturia
  • Cold, weak low back and knees
Flow
  • A lack of libido that’s worse for emotional distress
  • Emotional depression, irritability and mood swings
  • Tight chestedness, sighing, pain and distension of the flanks
  • Incomplete erections
